I am KAT

I have been a Driving Instructor for 8 years now and previous to this I was a VicRoads Licence Testing Officer

I spent 22 years at the Department of Human Services in Executive Assistant roles in Child Protection, Disability Services, Aged Care and other programs, often dealing with Ministers and Ombudsman, Regional Directors and more.

From there I did some administration work local to home and then moved on to work at VIC ROADS on the Counter, on the Phones and also as a Licence Testing Officer on the road (I assessed over 800 Drive Tests).

Throughout this role, I discovered my passion for the safety of all drivers.  Doing 6 - 8 drive tests a day, I also saw first hand many unsafe drivers (not the driving applicants but others on the road).

I have always had a passion for helping people and with a calm and encouraging nature, I finally decided what I wanted to be when I grew up (at aged 40+).

Once the idea was in my head, there was no stopping me, I trained really hard, and researched ways to assist new drivers to make valuable decisions that would work in any car and most importantly, when they were out on the road on their own.

I explain why we do what we do, and I work to have my students Self Supervise, Self Assess and Self Instruct.

Drive Safe for Life - Not Just to Pass Your Test

I love what I do and my whole world now is all about Safe Driving, Road Law, Safe Cars and Coaching students to Find their Own Way on the roads, so when they are driving alone they feel confident in making safe decisions.

In this role I have undertaken further training such as Defensive Driving course, and have participated in government initiatives such as Road Smart, Keys to Drive, My Learner Free Lesson.

In addition I volunteer each year at In The Driver's Seat (ITDS) to allow Visually Impaired People (VIPs) to experience driving a car as they hit Sandown Racecourse for laps driving my car.

Let me Introduce Billy Mauldon

So for the last eight years my husband has been my sounding board every night after work. I would talk with him about daily challenges and achievements…. Little did he know… he was secretly in training…

With over 20 years in construction and management and a long history of coaching and mentorship, there has come a time for change.

Billy has always been someone who enjoys teaching others, so I suggested just maybe he would enjoy driving instructing, I know he has the great dad jokes and he has been listening to my fun and successes for years. He was never going to be able to ignore it, so he might as well join in.

So Billy did his official training with the same trainer I used many years ago, passed all his assessments, came out with me on lessons, I went out with him on lessons and now he’s been on the road with students enjoying the Maccas runs, letting students learn in their own style, either by doing something over and over, a more structured lesson or even chats and fun quizzes with students about hazards and most likely sport and movies also.

I am confident students are going to love lessons with Billy and will become safer, more aware drivers ready for safe solo driving.

Please welcome Billy. You can still text me regarding lessons, or message Billy directly on 0413439435
